Music, education, and the space between.

I'm a music educator and researcher focused on making music classrooms more inclusive for students of all abilities. My work looks closely at how band and orchestra directors are prepared to teach students with intellectual and developmental disabilities — and how that preparation can be better.

My doctoral dissertation, The Impact of Band Directors' Attitudes on Instruction of Students with Intellectual Disabilities, examines the beliefs and practices that shape truly inclusive music classrooms. That research continues to drive my writing, teaching, and advocacy today.

As I was pursuing advanced degrees, I was also in the band hall as a director, working directly with students of every skill level. I expanded my musical reach when I took a role which included elementary. I have taught students from PreK to undergraduate. That vast experience is the foundation for everything I write about music education.
