Sounds into sights. Sights into sounds.
I grew up with an artist for a mother. She is an amazing photographer, and she can paint in about any medium. Although I mainly studied music throughout my life, I have always love creating visual art.
My painting began when I first contemplated to idea of turning sound into art. I have long been a fan of the iconic Blue Man Group, especially the way the group mixes intense visual art with amazing percussion work. As a teacher, I was exploring ways to give my graduating drumline seniors something special to remember their time playing. This led to my earliest series of paintings- using sticks and mallets to “play” an exercise into an art piece.
Upon relocating to Wichita Falls, TX, I found myself surrounded by one of the most inspiring artist communities imaginable. I developed ideas, found new inspiration, and grew as an artist. I was mentored, guided, and promoted as an artist. And most importantly, I was encouraged to display my work publicly.
I now live in Shiner, TX, where I continue to teach and create.
As a percussionist and composer, I attempt to create visual imagery through my work. I hope to invoke pictures and dreamscapes for the listener, while challenging the performer.
